Liebster Award

liebsterawardThank You very much Kerry from Postcards from Kerry for nominating me for the Liebster Award.  Having been blogging for only 6 months I still feel like a newbie, and never expected recognition on this level.  As I sit here in my truck on a cold day outside Chicago, It warms my heart to know people enjoy what I write as it is truly from my soul that it emerges.  You and Osyth from Half Baked In Paradise have been my biggest supporters and I’m glad to have found this portal to express myself.

OK, enough sucking up, on to the questions you asked 🙂

Who was your first TV/Film hero or crush?

MV5BMTI2Mzg5MjY4N15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwNzQ2Njc0MQ@@._V1_SY317_CR10,0,214,317_AL_I was 9 when I started watching Robert Conrad starring as Pappy Boyington on the tv show Ba Ba Black Sheep.  The show was based on the Marine Attack Squadron 214, AKA The Black Sheep Squadron who fought from Henderson Field in Guadalcanal during WW2.  This show started my lifelong quest to go to the south pacific.

What other place in the world do you think you could live in?

diamond-lake_paradise_new-zealand (Medium)New Zealand.  If you have watched any of the Lord of the Rings movies, you have seen New Zealand.  One simple word…Breathtaking!!!

What would you like engraved on your tombstone or written on your obituary?

“Just drop me over the side, and the boat is yours!”  😉

What food do you hate to eat?

quote-i-do-not-like-broccoli-and-i-haven-t-liked-it-since-i-was-a-little-kid-and-my-mother-made-me-eat-george-h-w-bush-28403I’m with George Bush Sr…I hate broccoli! I’m not going to eat it!!!

Star Wars or Star Trek?

9d7e7-mr-spock-mr-spock-10874060-1036-730My sister and I were in the theater for the opening of Star Wars, and I love it to this day, but I am first and foremost a “Trekkie!”  As Mr Spock would say, I found it to be “Very Absorbing.”

I like Kerry’s rules so I will push them forward…

The rules are:

  1. Say thank you to the person who nominated you.
  2. Pick 5 people to nominate
  3. Ask 5 questions.
  4. Post the pic in the post.

So here are my 5 picks for the award,

  1. Spearfruit
  2. Unmeasured Journeys
  3. The Girl Who Clicked
  4. Michnavs
  5. On the Road Cooking

And here are my 5 questions:

  1. If you could change one thing in another persons life, whether you know them or not, what would it be?
  2. If you could travel back in time, but never return, would you and when?
  3. Let’s say you could bring back a childhood pet, tell us a little about him or her.
  4. If you could relive one experience from your past over again, no changes, what would it be?
  5. What is the air speed velocity of an unladen swallow?  Oops..Strike that, Monty Python flashback!   What is your favorite black and white movie, and why?

I think that should be a challenge!  And again, thank you Kerry for thinking of me 🙂

  1. Thank you so much for that lovely mention … I don’t do anything – just enjoy what you write! Now then: Congratulations on the award and about time, I say. I was most entertained reading your responses particularly loving your choice of tombstone inscription (I’ve always loved Spike Milligan ‘I told you I was ill ….’) and I shall now enjoy a brief sojourn which may turn into a long hike round the nominees blogs 🙂

      1. I need to introduce you to my cousin Al …. when his wife left and went to live in New Zealand taking their son with him he built a boat and sailed there. From England. Since then with his son grown up and with children of his own, Al has sailed all over the world stopping wherever he pleases and having all manner of adventures. He refuses to write a book. Which is a shame for us all. I rather think you would get on. I adore him.

  2. Thank you for nominating me. Beyond kind! Now I just have to figure out how to get all this put together right! Ha!

I was looking through your photos. Wow, some wonderful pictures. Bet you get to see lots of places on the road. 🙂

  3. You think you’re new ??? Heck I’m thoroughly impressed with the link thingy and the award pic you and so many others have mastered.. I’m still struggling with my menu format.. I really have to start writing things down once I figure out how to do them.. I’m scared every time I add a new menu item that I’ll lose the whole structure.. And thats because I did, TWICE.. I was so relieved that tho it all disappeared, that all was still saved and I had to rebuild it..
Thank you for nominating my tiny blog..

New Zealand has always been an adventure in my imagination.. I hope you get there..
I’m pretty wowed that the other man mentioned, built the boat to follow his son.. What a dad !

I only read 6 blogs, thought it was 7 but nope, its 6.. And every one of them is gold standard.. And none of them are similar to each other but somehow each resonates with the reasons I love reading.. They touch both my mind and heart..

    I will tackle your questions..
I will hopefully tackle the way to respond in kind to the awards, but I know that’s going to take me some time..

Hope all is well on the roads you’re traveling.. I’m headed to Portland, reluctantly as I’ve seen the weather forecast 😯

  4. The answers
    1. If it was possible, I’d change thier self esteem.. But that’s not done with a twist of a knob or flip of a switch.. So I just have to be a good friend and hopefully that person can believe they are who I see.. Which is someone they’d like a lot..
    2. I would surely be tempted to travel thru time and witness all kinds of history and lands as they were thru the eons.. What an awesome trip it would be.. But to stay ?
No.. I don’t stay in one place in this life as it is.. And the one thing the future holds that the past cannot, is discovery of new things and events yet to happen.. I witnessed thru TV, the first image of a man on the moon.. Living somewhere in the past would drop the curtain on the next great thing to see or be a part of as it unfolds..
    3. Precious, my only dog before Stewie.. She was the smartest dog I’ve ever seen.. I could teach her everything I thought of.. Not my credit, she was that smart and that willing to learn.. ( don’t tell Stewie )
    4. Giving a 4 yr old her shot of insulin for the first time.. Yeah bet that sounds a bit odd.. I was 19 yrs old and just hired to be a nanny to her and her baby sister and the 4 yr old was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes the very week I started my job.. I was lost in the workforce up to that point in my life.. I had always been a hard worker but there was void, no challenge or spark..
When I had to give that shot in her tiny arm for the first time, I was afraid and almost quit, right there, ready to hand the syringe back.. I couldn’t bear knowing if I did it wrong that I’d hurt her.. The doctor whispered in my ear, “I’m right here, its okay” .. And I must have believed him because then I just focused on her arm, blocking everyone and every noise out and in a second, it was done.. I looked at Jackie’s face and she must’ve read mine, she said ” Its ok it didnt even hurt !” with a big smile.. I’ve jumped out of a perfectly good plane before and didn’t have nearly the rush of adrenaline and emotions that that moment contained.. And it was a life lesson for me, worthy of reliving.. I started to see the world differently, with purpose..
    5. The first half of the Wizard of Oz.. The second half of the movie was in color.. lol
It was my first horror flick.. Remembering those flying monkeys still gives me the heebeegeebees.. The cowardly lion was my favorite character..
Oops sorry if that all was a bit windy 😕

  5. Ohhhhh you’ll pay for that remark !!!!
    Hahahahaha..
When you make it to New Zealand, I’d better get a really awesome postcard from you.. Or I might have to build a boat and sail over and give you that kick in the pants you already deserve..

😒 I wonder how much Al would charge, he already did one..
