Trucker In A Pickle

Today was day 2 on my way from Maine to Minnesota. Just your average morning sunrise, but still worth noting. Driving along with my first cup of coffee, I was really enjoying the ride. Weekends are great, less traffic!

My route takes me west on I80 out western Pennsylvania. Lots of nice scenery, even on an overcast day.

I reached mile marker 141 and came up on standstill traffic. I turned on my CB, and someone said a truck had rolled over blocking the entire road. Apparently, the driver lost control somehow, then rolled on his side. Someone said he was OK, but the trailer split and dumped the load. Several dump trucks and a loader went by, going up to clean up the spilled load.

As I got closer, sniff sniff…Vinegar!

Apparently, the load was pickles! Strong odor as I went by.

No way to save any, just scoop them up, and haul to the dump. I’m glad no one was hurt bad. It’s always scary when you see a fellow trucker in a crash. You just never know when it’s going to be your turn. Meanwhile…Vinny was not impressed!

Happily snoozing away! (Yes, I give my dog a pillow!)

  1. I was on my way to Illinois when they closed 80 at the 147mm.. The sign clearly said to follow the red detour route.. I was behind one of the “cartoon carriers” that must’ve been driven by a newbie.. The route is a little winding but not bad.. As the driver unsuccessfully attempted to stay in lane, he/she was at a crawl, as traffic ahead left us in their dust.. That lasted for 4.2 miles/15 minutes.. Then the driver, really made a mistake, they didn’t read the sign and turned right to stay on the state road we were on, instead of following the red detour, which takes you back on 80. I’m sure that driver was still looking for 80 long after you were in Ohio.. Then halfway between there and 80 a truck broke down on this skinny road.. The hood up and the driver out chatting with the auto shop guy way up at the bay door.. WTH ? He didn’t bother putting any triangles out with half the lane blocked and on a curve.. Between the two dimwits it took 35mins to go the 15 mile detour.. But 80 was a breeze with no traffic once I was back on it..
Did you pick up any pickles on your way by ? πŸ˜„

    1. Btw, we’re leap frogging each other, I could only make it to Wadsworth and shut down.. Then I saw you parked at walmart on my way past.. So funny, you and I park in the same spot there πŸ˜„
I can never figure out why that spot isn’t always taken first.. But it usually isn’t and its the best spot to park, you can’t get blocked in and you’re facing the easiest way to exit.. For you and me it’s a bonus for an easy walk for our dogs too..

      1. Good deal 😊
So far today has been awesome.. I delivered to a pig farm (it didn’t stink, they keep it so clean)
The wife of the couple who owns it, brought me out Pecan flavored coffee, a sweet roll and an egg, bacon and cheese biscuit.. The bacon was their own meat and delicious..
I visited with the pigs and they were curious and friendly.. Days like this are what makes our chosen career so interesting and fun.. I’m finishing my break here, then off to pick up my next load.. Super bonus, they insisted on sweeping my trlr for me and gave me another cup of coffee for the road.. πŸ€—

  2. Hello you! Sorry for my sustained absence … life gets in the way sometimes just like a truck full of vinegar blocking the road! Happy Sunday to you and Vinnie from The Bean and I and I will be back to normal service reading and commenting and occasionally remembering to write my own stuff tomorrow πŸ™‚

  3. First of all I would like to say wonderful blog! I had a quick question that I’d like to ask if you do not mind.
I was interested to know how you center yourself and clear your head prior to
writing. I’ve had a difficult time clearing my
thoughts in getting my ideas out there. I truly do take pleasure in writing but
it just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are wasted simply just trying to figure out how to begin. Any suggestions or tips?
