Beautiful Day

The heart is a bloom
Shoots up through the stony ground
There’s no room
No space to rent in this town

You’re out of luck
And the reason that you had to care
The traffic is stuck
And you’re not moving anywhere

You thought you’d found a friend
To take you out of this place
Someone you could lend a hand
In return for grace

It’s a beautiful day
Sky falls, you feel like
It’s a beautiful day
Don’t let it get away

You’re on the road
But you’ve got no destination
You’re in the mud
In the maze of her imagination

You’re lovin’ this town
Even if that doesn’t ring true
You’ve been all over
And it’s been all over you

It’s a beautiful day
Don’t let it get away
It’s a beautiful day

Touch me
Take me to that other place
Teach me
I know I’m not a hopeless case

See the world in green and blue
See China right in front of you
See the canyons broken by cloud
See the tuna fleets clearing the sea out
See the Bedouin fires at night
See the oil fields at first light
And see the bird with a leaf in her mouth
After the flood all the colors came out

It was a beautiful day
Don’t let it get away
Beautiful day

Touch me
Take me to that other place
Reach me
I know I’m not a hopeless case

What you don’t have you don’t need it now
What you don’t know you can feel it somehow
What you don’t have you don’t need it now
Don’t need it now
Was a beautiful day

Beautiful Day – U2

Thanks Natalie for the inspiration for this post!

Another holiday spent on the road. I do it so another driver with a wife and kids won’t have to. Freight still needs to move no matter the day, and I drove over 600 miles again. I’m back in the truck after a disappointing meal at a truck stop, but upon reflection it was still a beautiful day…

It started bright and cheerful

I stopped midday to walk Vinny and stretch my legs

He had to sniff everything!

I saw this vine growing in the fence, it reminded me of how life can be…

Vinny got to bark at people walking by

And I was treated to a spectacular sunset!

It was a beautiful day…Don’t let it get away.

      1. You’re welcome. I love that you drive so others drivers can be with their families. That’s very nice. Sorry your meal wasn’t great. Seems like meals are hit and miss. Good one time, not so good another, even at the same places. Maybe you’ll have a wonderful meal today. Tell Vinny hi. 😊

  1. Vinny at his barking sniffing best! Thank you for giving up your own holiday so that another can be with his wife and child. Your karma is high even though you actually don’t try …. this is one reason i am thankful to call you my friend

  2. You are a good man W.G.! You ate a crappy meal and drove your truck all day so that someone else could share the holiday with their family. Right On! The world would be a far better place is there were more folks like you. Thank you.
Now, I feel bad that you ate a crappy meal. If you had been over here on the other side of the country, you would have had a FANTASTIC traditional Thanksgiving meal! (Vinny Too). It was the first time in my history of Thanksgiving cooking that NOTHING went wrong. My skeptical boyfriend had one eyebrow raised all day as I slaved away in the kitchen! HA! he ate til he almost popped! Ziggy enjoyed his dinner of fresh breast of turkey with a bit of homemade gravy too! I have a lot of leftovers (I can mail you a box if you want??).
    God Bless You W.G.!
